Applying for a Provident loan

Repay your way

Automatic payments from your bank account

  • You'll need a bank account
  • Pay automatically from your bank account every week, via Continuous Payment Authority (CPA)
    • We'll only take the payment amount we've agreed with you
    • We'll only take your payment on the day we've agreed
    • Switch to weekly home collection at any time
  • Make your first payment online or to your Rep, then we'll set up your CPA
  • Your Rep will be there for you if you need them
  • Ask your Rep when they call you to find out if this option is available in your area

Home collection

  • You don't need a bank account if you repay with cash
  • We'd normally pop round to your home every week to collect your payment. Due to Coronavirus we might not be able to do that at the moment. Don't worry, there are other temporary ways to pay:
    • Over the phone
    • On our website
  • Pay at your doorstep with cash or debit card - please ask your Rep if this is possible. Your Rep will follow social distancing rules if they visit, and won't visit if a local lockdown is in place

Whichever way you choose to pay, your Rep will be there to help you.

Minimum requirements

  • Your name and date of birth

  • Your address details for the past 3 years

  • A phone number and email address

If you want to repay your loan through your bank you'll also need:

  • A bank account with a valid debit card registered in your name and address - please note this cannot be a savings account

  • To agree that collections may be changed to home collection if your CPA fails twice and/or this is deemed to be in your best interests

  • To agree for your Rep to visit every so often if social distancing allows

  • To agree that all visits and discussions relating to your CPA will be voice recorded

A Rep will need to see your proof of ID, address and income. They'll call you to let you know where to email photos of these documents.

You'll also need to record a short video of yourself telling us that you would like a Provident loan.

We won’t be able to give you a loan without these things. To see which documents you can use please click here.

Choose your loan

Use our loan calculator to choose how much you need and for how long.

Start online

You'll find out in minutes if you've been accepted in principle.

Please note due to the current circumstances we're not lending as much as we used to. If you're unsuccessful in your application, you can apply again in 3 months.

Finish on the phone

Your Rep will need to take a look at your documents and a video of you stating you would like a Provident loan. They'll also complete an affordability assessment with you.

If accepted you can choose how you recieve the money. We can drop it off in cash or we can send the money straight to your bank account.

You can also choose how to make your payments. You can do this automatically through your bank account or by home collection where we would normally pop round to your home every week. As we aren’t carrying out home visits at the moment you can choose to pay your Rep over the phone, online or through our automated payment line.

A CPA gives us permission to collect loan payments directly from your bank account using your debit card. We’ll only request payments that we’ve agreed with you.

Once the CPA is set up, you just need to make sure there’s enough money in your account on the day your payment is due. We’ll only ever take the amount we’ve agreed. We’ll take payment once each week on the day we have agree with you upfront.

Your rep will still pop round every so often to check everything is ok.

Normally we don't allow this, however temporarily due to the current circumstances we're allowing customers to change their existing loans to CPA payments.

Once things return to normal, loans will change back to home collection.

Please note:

We'll only try to take a CPA repayment once each week. If the payment fails, we'll let you know and we'll arrange a time to talk about it with you.

If your CPA fails two weeks in a row, your CPA will be cancelled. We'll switch your repayments to home collection to make sure you get the support you need with your account.

All our home visits are voice recorded for training and quality purposes, to make sure you get the best service every time we visit. Read more about Voice Recording here.
